Next Day (Evening) Dressing Removal Instructions
1. Using scissors (bandage scissors with flat or blunt edge are better) cut bandage and elastic wrap off.
2. You will see 4 x 4 gauze or pads that will need to be removed. It may be helpful to get in the shower and let the water loosen up the dressing if you find them difficult to remove.
Now that the dressing is removed, you will see some bruising and some swelling which is normal at this point in your treatment process. You may wash the area with soap and water.
If you have a larger incision, keep this covered with a band-aid for the next week. This will prevent the compression hose from irritating the incision. If is not necessary to put any ointment on the incision.
We’re sure you are happy to be out of the surgical compression dressing. However, venous compression is very important to obtain optimal results. We commend that the stocking be worn every day for 2 weeks. It may be removed while sleeping and bathing. You should not swim during this time. If at any point during your treatment you experience any leg pain or mild swelling and you are not wearing your compression stocking, PUT YOUR STOCKING ON.
During and Following Treatment:
If your legs are sore and uncomfortable, walking will help. A mild analgesic may also be taken if necessary. Advil, Nuprin, or Ibuprofen is best, or whatever you usually take for mild aches and pains.
Exercise is a must for proper treatment effectiveness. Walking often will aid in your treatment plan and healing abilities. There is no need to modify your normal activity. Patients can return to work immediately. Light to moderate activity is extremely important for good results.
Please keep your follow up appointment as scheduled and bring/wear your hose to the office at that time.
